There is a reason that election day is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. It was "slow season" for farmers, and they could take the time to travel over unimproved roads to the County Seat to vote, and it avoided election day ever falling on the November 1 All Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation.
