Shared Divinity? Can man somehow "share" divinity with God?

This "Shared Divinity" concept might be way too big for my limited intellectual capacity, but my heart is trying it on for size.

Mass Homilies are supposed to rouse the soul, stir thought and inspire action. Every once in a while a Homily goes deep, in some way, and actually shakes the soul, as an earthquake shakes the land. Maybe that's always the intention of the homilist, but the listeners are not always properly disposed to receive it or properly attuned to the deeper meaning.

Today's Homily shook my soul, maybe because it struck a chord on a topic I had been wrestling with in the back of my mind for some time. It had to do with the Prayer of Jesus in John 17, "that they may be one in me as I am one with you", and, "even as you are in me and I in thee, that they also may be in us." Look at the whole thing in context:
