For two thousand years, the one constant and unchanging aspect of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church has been Moral Clarity

Has that unique Catholic absolute moral clarity finally come to an end? 

The world says, there are no absolutes.  And that "institutions" (including the Church) in and of themselves are "bad". 

Only one of these positions can be correct.  Not both. 

Now, with Pope Francis, we have entered an era of Papal Dubiosity.  All that has gone before is now up for questioning.  Regarding the Family, which is the primal foundation of human society, we have now began to discuss it to death

We have seen discussions, leading to pre-synod synods, an actual synod, a post-synod synod, and the discussions just continue, because nothing discussed has been settled.  Questions were raised and arguments put forth, and the world awaited a decisive pronouncement in the form of a Papal Exhortation. 

But then the Exhortation, Amoris Laetitia, was indecisive.  Instead of confirming the unchanged moral truth, Pope Francis more or less threw the decision back to the individual Bishops to handle in a more "Pastoral" interpretation, as seen by each Bishop to be appropriate, in each diverse and different diocese throughout the whole world. 

Which raises the question, has Catholic Denominationalism now entered the Church, and is each Diocese to become it's own independent "Church"? 

The Five Dubia (Doubts) of the Four Cardinals.

To clarify original moral teaching on the Family, and to make certain that it has not changed, four Cardinals have sent five direct and very simple yes-or-no questions to Pope Francis, to which he is either unable or unwilling to reply.  Other Cardinals have attacked the four Cardinals for even asking the five simple questions.  But none of them answered any of the five questions either.  Nor did any of them address the fact that none of the questions should even be questions. 

The four signers of the five dubia:

  • Card. Walter Brandmiller
  • Card. Raymond L. Burke
  • Card. Carlo Cafferra
  • Card. Joachim Meisner

And here are the five simple yes-or-no questions that any and every Roman Catholic Cleric, of any rank, should be willing and able to answer, immediately, without the slightest hesitation. 

  1. It is asked whether, following the affirmations of "Amoris Laetitia" (nn. 300-305), it has now become possible to grant absolution in the Sacrament of Penance and thus to admit to Holy Communion a person who, while bound by a valid marital bond, lives together with a different person "more uxorio" (in a marital way) without fulfilling the conditions provided for by "Familiaris Consortio" n. 84 and subsequently reaffirmed by "Reconciliatio et Paenitentia" n. 34 and "Sacramentum Caritatis" n. 29. Can the expression “in certain cases” found in note 351 (n. 305) of the exhortation "Amoris Laetitia" be applied to divorced persons who are in a new union and who continue to live "more uxorio"?
  2. After the publication of the Post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation "Amoris Laetitia" (cf. n. 304), does one still need to regard as valid the teaching of St. John Paul II’s Encyclical "Veritatis Splendor" n. 79, based on Sacred Scripture and on the Tradition of the Church, on the existence of absolute moral norms that prohibit intrinsically evil acts and that are binding without exceptions?
  3. After "Amoris Laetitia" (n. 301) is it still possible to affirm that a person who habitually lives in contradiction to a commandment of God’s law, as for instance the one that prohibits adultery (cf. Mt 19:3-9), finds him or herself in an objective situation of grave habitual sin (cf. Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, Declaration, June 24, 2000)?
  4. After the affirmations of "Amoris Laetitia" (n. 302) on “circumstances which mitigate moral responsibility,” does one still need to regard as valid the teaching of St. John Paul II’s Encyclical "Veritatis Splendor" n. 81, based on Sacred Scripture and on the Tradition of the Church, according to which “circumstances or intentions can never transform an act intrinsically evil by virtue of its object into an act ‘subjectively’ good or defensible as a choice”?
  5. After "Amoris Laetitia" (n. 303) does one still need to regard as valid the teaching of St. John Paul II’s encyclical "Veritatis Splendor" n. 56, based on Sacred Scripture and on the Tradition of the Church, that excludes a creative interpretation of the role of conscience and that emphasizes that conscience can never be authorized to legitimate exceptions to absolute moral norms that prohibit intrinsically evil acts by virtue of their object?

Now, I'm just a layman, but I have no problem answering these questions.  Why would any other Catholic?  Why would any Bishop?  Why would any Pope? 

It seems to me that the only thing under question here is absolute Truth.  Does absolute Truth exist, or not?  Yes or no. 

I throw the question open to any Bishop; any Bishop at all. 

The duties of the Bishop are to govern, to teach and to sanctify. 

If you are a Catholic Bishop, it is your bound duty to teach us, and to clarify this situation for us.  We are not supposed to clarify it for you

So far, all I hear from that quarter are crickets. 

Based solely on a literal interpretation of the pertinent paragraphs of Amoris Laetitia, I supplied my own answers to the five doubts, as per the following:

  1. Yes.
  2. No.
  3. No.
  4. No.
  5. No.

Very simple; nothing to it.  I just don't see what's so tough about this. 

But then, who am I?  I'm just a typical run-of-the-mill Christian, non-college educated, white, male, heterosexual, who is forever stuck in a basket of deplorables; a "Bitter Clinger", clinging to my Bible and my guns. 

Of course it would be simple to me.  I'm not educated enough to be confused.
