Lip Service Catholics may look Catholic and sound Catholic, but they are fraudulent Catholics; some of them knowingly so, most of them not. Like the trick-shop wind-up false teeth, you wind them up, and they say Catholic stuff, until the spring winds down and you wind them up again. Most of today's Catholic laymen are
Popular cultural and social error has probably crept into your church too, perhaps while you were not paying attention, or perhaps with your support and cooperation, whether knowingly or otherwise.
We have elsewhere talked about American "political" ecumenism that arose from our unique and exceptional American national nature. America was born of the desire for the freedom of Christian worship; she was thus born a Christian nation, but a multi - denominational Christian nation. Each denomination tolerated and even supported the others, finding strong kinship in their common belief in the same one and only God, and in their common Christian morality. They shared the same cultural ethos.
However, Protestant denominations continued to split into more and more denominations, and, perhaps more importantly, they "evolved" completely new and foreign doctrines, while they modified and even eliminated old ones. Being that Protestantism began life by splitting off from the Church Christ founded and moving away from the one true source of original doctrine, we can see that the newest denominations and the newest doctrinal interpretations are farther and farther away from the original Revelation.
Ordinarily, this should be no real surprise. It is the job (or one vitally important job) of the Church to protect and preserve unchanged the original Gospel message and the whole of the Creed we profess, throughout all of time. And, it is the purpose of the Protestant movement to reinterpret it, change it or replace it. That's what the argument between the original Church and Protestantism is all about.
But it is not Protestantism alone that has gone soft, and even gone off the tracks in some areas. Many old-timers among American Catholics today lament the loss of Latin, the loss of chant, the insertion of Protestant music into the sacred liturgy, the casual treatment of the Eucharist, the turning of the Altar, holding hands during the Lord's Prayer, etc., etc., etc. Listen, that stuff, while still important, is peanuts compared to the other areas where Catholicism has gone soft in America. I believe much of it is due to our unique form of political ecumenism; the larger, outside, atheist - syncretist - secularist culture has found a way to be the yeast that modifies us, rather than the other way round.
The terrible thing about that is the fact that belief itself takes a back seat to every issue in the realm of political America today. If that were not true, then such things as aborting people and homosexual marriage would not be universally promoted in pop-culture, sponsored by a major national political Party and promoted as worthwhile political goals worthy of championing. What we wind up with, ultimately, is a sick, twisted indifferentism and syncretism.
I'm-OK you're-OK Religion, in which anything goes, and all religions are seen to be sort of co-equal. It doesn't matter what you believe so long as you believe in something and it's even OK if you believe in nothing.
This is, of course, religious stupidity. It is even suicidal. Getting in bed with Moslems, for instance, means getting in bed with your own future murderers. Getting chummy with Satanists or Wica practitioners means getting chummy with people who's religious doctrine requires them to torture animals, among other things, and desecrate our Churches, holy objects and places.
All religions are not the same.
It does matter what you believe.
There is such a thing as evil, including organized evil.
Catholics and Protestants alike are falling into the mortal sins of indifference and syncretism. You may not be indifferent to the name of Jesus Christ. Syncretism - an endless blending of religions - may be perfectly acceptable in India, but this is not India; this is America. We have a different ethos.
Gathering with unrepentant obstinate sinners is pretty close to actually being an unrepentant obstinate sinner yourself. You will become your friends. Your habits and your associations and your activities will form you. Jesus ate with sinners, but they were repentant sinners; they were converted. Remember what He said to the woman caught in adultery: Go ye and sin no more. He came to redeem them from their sins, not to join them in their sins. Catholics and Protestants alike who politically champion mortal sin are actually apostates in disguise.
Nancy Pelosi typifies what we're talking about here. She sponsors, promotes, champions and defends the worst abominations in American political and legal life, while she poses as a practicing Catholic. She is the worst kind of a liar. She is a Catholic poseur. She is helping to lead her Democrat Party voter-base, which is The Moron Vote, right straight down the wide, easy, downhill path into hell, and now, under Obamunism, larger America is in very real danger of going to hell with them. And the SLIMC1 , acting as the Democrat Party's Propaganda Wing, is supporting the journey all they can. They are all, after all, MEJTML14 s.
We have spoken elsewhere herein of how the old racism of the historically racist Democrat Party has morphed into what I have called the New Racism, and what Rush and others have called The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations. Well, some of that may have crept into the thought patterns of American Catholic bishops, in their view of their own flocks.
They don't expect too much from us, because we are not too bright.
That's what it looks like to me. You don't see them correcting us much when we go astray, do you? That's odd; neither do I. That might explain why we seem to have lost the track of the simplest, lowest fundamentals of our own faith. Forget the big stuff for the moment; do we Catholic laymen even know what the difference is between us and non-Catholics? I'm not talking about fallen-away Catholics; I'm talking about you and me, and the person next to you in the pew every (or most) Sunday(s).
The Seven Precepts of the Church
Odds are pretty good that you either
Again, we are talking about falling into mortal sin here. It is a mortal sin to miss Mass without a good reason. The odds are 50-50 or worse that the person next to you in the pew either doesn't know that, or doesn't believe it. Missing Mass is no big deal any more. The odds are closer to 9 out of 10 that the person next to you in the pew does not abstain from meat on Fridays, and doesn't give up anything else in place of abstaining from meat either.
How many, including yourself, do you think are cognizant of the fact that Catholics are called to not only hear the Word, but to speak it? It is a requirement of the faith. It goes along with being Catholic. By not following any of the precepts of the faith, we move out of grace and into sin. How many Catholics today even think about that?
None of these precepts have changed or been abrogated. They are rules of the Church, established under the authority of the Church to bind and loose, granted by Christ Himself, to all the Apostles in Matt 18:18, and to Peter alone in Matt 16:19. He would not have given them this power if He did not intend for them to use it.
Yet today we see Catholic laymen lackadaisical in their faith, committing mortal sin and still coming forth to the the Communion Rail, adding sacrilege to their sins, seemingly oblivious to the importance of the simplest and most foundational principles of their own faith.
How many fully practicing Catholics think artificial contraception is more of a personal choice than a doctrine to be obediently followed? How many "feel" that abortion is less a matter of Church doctrine than a personal matter of a woman's right to choose to abort someone else? How many "feel" that divorce and remarriage, or non-sacramental marriage, or even cohabitation, are "personal" decisions, private matters, that should be outside the pervue of the Church?
The teaching has not changed.
America is burning down around our ears, and I'm going on about Lip-Service Catholicism. Why?
America is nothing without the Christian foundation of the nation.
When we look at the history of America within the larger history of nations, we re-learn what Madison, Jefferson, Tocqueville and others warned about. Not only the greatness, but even the very survival of the American form of representative Republic was and is absolutely dependent upon two very critical things:
Both of those absolute requirements of the free American citizenry have been and are being systematically destroyed by anti-American pro-Marxist formal education, anti-American pro-Marxist propaganists disguised as journalists and commentators, and anti-American pro-Marxist professional politicians.
We can thank the anti-American pro-Marxist art of community organizing.
Compartmentalizing our faith was the beginning of our national downfall. "Compartmentalizing" different areas of our life seems, at first glance, to be a good thing. The ideas that say, what happens at work stays at work; what happens in the home stays at home; what happens between friends stays between friends, etc. You don't want to bring work home; you don't want to bring family problems to the office; all that seems good. But our Christian faith cannot properly be compartmentalized.
If you are a Catholic, then you are a Catholic in Church, at work, at home, at play, and everywhere you go, and everything you do. You are Catholic when you sleep, when you awake, when you eat, when you travel, when you work, when you rest, and when you lay down again. Your faith has to be awake in you all day long, every day. You cannot ever put it aside. It is against your religion to put your religion aside, ever.
You must be Catholic even in the voting booth, even in the jury box, even at the political rally, even from the bully pulpit, even when arguing politics and issues. Always. Everywhere. In all company.
When Protestantism goes astray from the original revelation, someone needs to be prepared to argue and reason in the direction of religious sanity, and we Catholics are it. If nobody ever stands up and argues for the Truth, large T, then the Truth will ultimately become the truth, small t, in the minds of men. If we don't somehow get back to being a "good people" as Tocqueville once described us, then, perhaps we deserve to "burn down."
What lit my fire on this topic is a new series of talks by Michael Voris of ChurchMilitant.TV regarding the ongoing crisis in the Catholic Church. When you look at this crisis, you see that it parallels the ongoing crisis in America, pertaining to the increasing peril to the actual continuation of American national existence. To my eye, they - the Catholic crisis, and the American crisis - are one and the same crisis. Michael, quite properly, lays the blame for the crisis in faith at the lukewarm feet of the Bishops. The Tea Party, quite properly, lays the blame for the crisis in America at the lukewarm feet of the Republican Party.
But each crisis feeds and magnifies the other.
I'm just going to put links to the series right here, and see what you think. Am I nuts, or is the lackadaisical attitude of the Bishops pretty much the same as the lackadaisical attitude of our elected representatives? How about the view from the Protestants? Is their teaching cooling off, too?
Let me know.
The 5 parts of the Demolition of the Faith series:
If the Tea Party is now big enough and organized enough to light a fire under the asses of some of our supposed representatives in government, I'm wondering if there are enough Catholics out there, and perhaps enough Protestants, and perhaps enough Jews, to light similar fires under the asses of priests, ministers, rabbis and bishops.
Now, the Church is no democracy, nor is she any sort of representative republic; we laymen have nothing to say about doctrine or theology or proper interpretation of Revelation. However, with the lion's share of all of that solidly recorded in Scripture and in Catechisms, and openly available to us all, we can see immediately when our religious leaders are falling down on the job. And they are. Big time.
Maybe if we can fire a few of them up, they might embarrass their brothers into properly fulfilling their responsibility for proper teaching of the faith in their particular Churches.
Bottom line,America is not going anywhere worth going without God.

Watched another video last night, and though I should share it with you. The elder Voris expresses how Marcie and I feel exactly. If are Catholic, and if you are our age or older, you will know that these words are true.
We wonder if the bishops are proud of themselves.

Thank you for writing your articles. Are you familiar with Garabandal? Mary said many cardinals, bishops and priests are on the road to perdition taking many souls with them. Akita Japan apparitions have been approved by the church. If only we could be consecrated to Jesus thru Mary.
