The Politics of Popularity.

I was listening to Rush as I drove my daily route yesterday, as usual, and he said something that hit me like a ton of bricks. For years, I have seen and wondered about one particular dichotomy more than any other: how it could be that bright, intelligent people could hold fast to truly stupid arguments or positions on various subjects. Is it possible for someone to be both intelligent and stupid at the same time? This question began nagging me many years ago, when I began trying to research into the "why" behind all the lies and falsehoods clearly existing and thriving out in the open, as knowns, or as axioms; obvious falsehoods almost universally held to be well known truths throughout all of society. Why?
