How many times over how many decades have we all heard the comparison between politics and governing with sausage-making, with the inference that "you don't want to know" and "you don't want to see" what goes into it and how it is done. We have lived our lives blindly, with closed-door deals and secret haggling over unspoken parts of unpublished agendas working out how we and the world are to be governed going on behind our backs, while we patiently await final pronouncements from on high on budgets, or monetary policy, or foreign policy, or domestic policy, or whatever.

Why?

Because, nothing about any of it could stand the light of day.
