The reason we all loved the Three Stooges was the same reason we all loved Laurel and Hardy: We couldn't believe anyone could be that incredibly (and therefore comically) incompetent, and seeing all that incompetence on display made us all feel better about ourselves. However incompetent we all might be, we weren't that incompetent.
