Subject: Some thing Serious About Sydney Airport
Some thing Important about Sydney Airport
My request to your audience or whoever reads this article should take it serious and think on it.
After sep11 the airports especially airports of western countries became too unsafe. There are many reasons for that but right now it is the duty of every one to take all possible steps to defeat terrorism and to take extra security measures on airports. Australia has taken a lot of steps against terrorism and is really a great country of this century.
But a frustrating and a strange reality is that its airports are not safe, any catastrophe can happen, any tragedy can happen which will be more bigger then sep11. I give an example of Sydney airport. Australian government gave security contract of this airport to a security company called SNP security Australia and it claims to be oldest security company in Australia.
Thousands of people say in Australia that this company is incompetent because during selection procedures of guards they only take a little test that how is your grammar how are your spellings and a small aptitude test which even a 10 year old kid can solve, or its just a drama to give the impression that selection criteria is very tough. In interview they only ask why you want to join SNP security, how are your customer service skills, that’s all. After this they send the guards to airports to protect against terrorists. I sense this procedure seems funny. They also demand certificate 1 in security but ask no questions related to security issues, skills or security legislations. There are dozens of other questions and answers security guards should know when taking duties of security guard at sensitive place like Sydney airport. Now if you ask a guard recruited by SNP security that what is security industry act of NSW he will fail to answer. I you ask how you will handle aggressive passengers during screening he will fail to answer. Now why Australian government not questioning SNP. Is Sydney airport a joke, or [does] Australian government not care whatever happens at Sydney airport???? SNP is an incompetent company; how airlines can trust such airports who are run by companies like SNP Security Australia.

SNP in ICAC for corruption:- In relation to Sydney Night Patrol and Inquiry Services (SNP) Pty Ltd, Mr. McCallum engaged in corrupt conduct by accepting free hospitality and arranging to have SNP issue invoices to UNE totaling about $19,400 that falsely described the costs associated with a vehicle as “alarm service” work so that SNP could obtain money from UNE that he knew UNE would not otherwise pay. Mr. McCallum approved payment of those invoices. SNP’s Martin McLean engaged in corrupt conduct by causing SNP to issue invoices to UNE, which he knew falsely described the costs associated with the vehicle as “alarm service” work to obtain money for SNP.

From the Canberra Times:- Sydney-based SNP Security, which holds about $28 million in security contracts with Commonwealth agencies, is facing complaints to the Fair Work Ombudsman and WorkSafe ACT from five of its workers who claim they have been systematically overworked and underpaid for several years. The United Voice union has also asked WorkCover ACT to investigate the company's wider workplace practices, alleging a culture of bullying, threats and intimidation against guards who speak out.

I have a friend who applied for a job with SNP. He answered an add placed using SNP letterhead, attended an interview at SNP Newcastle and then went through an SNP assessment/induction. After being successful, he was taken off to the side by a manager (I won't name names) and told that he would be signing a casual employment contract with SNP but he would be working for a sub contractor called KE Security. He was not to tell the client under any circumstances that he worked for a sub contractor as the client had expressly forbid subcontracting in their agreement.
The sub contractor paid extremely poorly ($22 ph flat rate)and provided no pay slips. The contractor has apparently had several meetings with FWO regarding complaints from other former employees, but continues to refuse to issue pay slips or pay appropriately.
Is it any wonder they can't get people.
