I know that I must have been young once, but I can hardly remember it.
We who grew up in the old Latin Rite were always taught that if we each looked after the health and well-being of our own individual souls the bigger picture would take care of itself. But we can look around and easily see that we are not all doing that. And when it looks like most of us have abandoned the grace of God, it feeds an ever growing passionate need to try do something about it.
All I know how to do about it is write about it, and so I do.
Easter brings the joy of the Resurrection, and the promise of our own future Easters, or risings, if only we will persevere under the weight of our own crosses, keep the faith and stay in the grace that is freely given, offered and made available to everyone on earth.
Each joyful Easter brings with it a little more foreboding and worry about the national soul of America, let alone the collective soul of the human species, if there is such a thing. The longer I live, the more it looks like the world is bound for hell.
When I joined the Army the oath of allegiance I swore was to the American Constitution, and I fully understood that at the time. It was an oath to protect the American Idea, and rule of law over rule of men. And rule of law included specific legally protected citizen rights, especially the citizen right to choose God - or not. Simple common sense would indicate that most of us, free to do so, would choose God, rather than hell. Where's the logic in choosing hell?
As a matter of full disclosure, I, too, was bound for hell for quite a number of years, full of myself, proud, thinking myself invincible, overpowering whatever fears in me with bravado. It wasn't a false bravado. It was a near suicidally stupid bravado. And I was out of grace.
When I went off to war, I went to war for America. And when I saw the conflict in America, over America, and the rising tide against the American idea inside America, that is when this personal foreboding was first born in me. America was destroying herself. We were destroying ourselves. Our worst enemies were here, not over there or somewhere outside of us.
And slowly - too slowly - it began to dawn that the same war was going on inside of myself.
Now, look at the Church. It isn't only evil forces outside the Church that that are battering at the ramparts.
The Church, too, is at war with herself.
I'm just your basic fundamental really old guy picking up his cross every day and following Lord Jesus to my own end in this world, and hopefully, to my resurrection in the next.
But is that enough?
What about the rest of America?
What about the rest of the Church?
What about the rest of humanity?
So I wish you a blessed and joyful Easter, a little belatedly by one day.
And I sincerely hope you are preparing for your own personal Easter.
The only thing Truth has going for Him in this world is us.
The restoration of Truth = Reality in the hearts and minds of men is now totally dependent upon you and me; if we don't do it, it won't get done.

Never be lukewarm.
Life itself demands passion.
He who is indifferent to God has already forfeited his soul.
He who is indifferent to politics has already forfeited his liberty.
In America, religion is not mere window dressing and citizenship is not a spectator sport.
Do not allow our common destiny as a whole people to just happen without your input.

Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and
broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in
thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life:
and few there are that find it! Beware of false prophets, who come to you in
the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Jesus Christ; Matt 7:13-15
"We belong to the Church militant; and She is militant because on earth the powers of darkness are ever restless to encompass Her destruction. Not only in the far-off centuries of the early Church, but down through the ages and in this our day, the enemies of God and Christian civilization make bold to attack the Creator’s supreme dominion and sacrosanct human rights.”--Pope Pius XII
"It is not lawful to take the things of others to give to the poor. It is a sin worthy of punishment, not an act deserving a reward, to give away what belongs to others."--St. Francis of Assisi
