Funny how you can intuitively know something without thinking about it or realizing it, until something about it gets your attention brings it to the forefront.
In the 1998 to 2000 time frame, after a lot of prayerful discernment and reflection I took the first moves toward becoming a Catholic Deacon. In the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, the first requirement in that process was to go through the LPMP training; the Lay Pastoral Ministry Program. And the very name of the program was the first thing that gave me pause.
What were the words Lay and Pastoral Ministry even doing in the same sentence? Only a Priest may be a Pastor, and thus, only a Priest may actually do Pastoral Ministry.
The LPMP courses were a prerequisite for entry into the Diaconate Program, but all who were taking the LPMP courses were not even intending to move on to the Diaconate. Only a pitifully few of us were. The program was preparing Lay Pastoral Ministers, to do Lay Pastoral Ministry. Many in the program were women.
You can read about the distinctly un-Catholic and even anti-Catholic training I received from the Cincinnati Archdiocese's Athenaeum of Ohio LPMP program in the Cafeteria Catholic Pages in this website.
To make a long story short, at the end of the program I was "not invited" to enter the Diaconate program, because I was "too rigid in my doctrine", as though it were my doctrine. I had argued with the professors every step of the way, and while I won all the arguments, I lost the Diaconate program. So much for that.
It was clear then and it remains clear now that the Cincinnati Archdiocese quite officially opposes adherence to Catholic Doctrine.
During that whole experience, Liberation Theology was in the news, and there was a brief touching on it in the LPMP course work here and there, but I never connected the dots. All through that study and course work, and even for years afterward, I only thought Liberation Theology involved some wayward Clerics who were actually Communists, and who were lending support to various Communist Revolutions and causes, especially in Central and South America.
Generally, just a Priest or a Bishop here and there who participated in or supported Communism, including even violent revolution. I never thought of it as being at the root of Lay Pastoral Ministry. But then, when I read the Church Militant News Report below, it clicked.
This Leonardo Boff character, the inventor or initiator of Liberation Theology, worked to Communize Catholicism by reversing ordained authority, and putting "the people" in charge, or at least on a supposedly equal authoritative standing with the Pope and the whole hierarchy.
Boff's "Basic Christian Communities" reverses, or perhaps flattens, the order ordained by Christ. Rather than Jesus Christ establishing Priestly, Magisterial and Pastoral authority to the Chosen Twelve, He established that authority to all followers - to the Church, as a whole.
If this is not a declared heresy, it ought to be.
But, in this light, does the term Lay Pastoral Ministry make more sense?
Along with lay distributors of Communion, lay lectors, and every other "Lay Ministry" that I, and many others, was once a practitioner of. May God forgive us.
I was a fool. I let myself be fooled. How many others, like me, in one "lay ministry" or another, were active participants in and practitioners of Liberation Theology, and didn't even know it?
I give thanks to God that we made the move to a Latin Mass Church.
Liberation Theology is right in there with what Stalin's agents did to homoexualize and Communize the Catholic Priesthood. It's a sneaky, underhanded way to make believing Catholic Laymen unknowingly participate in the systematic destruction of the Church.
As if it were not bad enough that we have an anti-Catholic Pope, we also have thundering herds of believing faithful who have been made unwitting cooperators in the slow, systematic elimination of the original ordained order of the Church.

Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and
broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in
thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life:
and few there are that find it! Beware of false prophets, who come to you in
the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Jesus Christ; Matt 7:13-15
"We belong to the Church militant; and She is militant because on earth the powers of darkness are ever restless to encompass Her destruction. Not only in the far-off centuries of the early Church, but down through the ages and in this our day, the enemies of God and Christian civilization make bold to attack the Creator’s supreme dominion and sacrosanct human rights.”--Pope Pius XII
"It is not lawful to take the things of others to give to the poor. It is a sin worthy of punishment, not an act deserving a reward, to give away what belongs to others."--St. Francis of Assisi
