Many years ago, when I was employed by a firm under contract developing software for the DoD at Wright Patterson AFB Ohio, a meeting was called to announce a major change in the future of defense software. The change was that the current systems were to be modified and future systems were to be designed to be "right now responsive".
The change involved platform changes, moving systems out of the big mainframe computers and into the newer, at that time, server-PC networks, which was not that big of a deal. But it also involved the new double requirement that,
- The systems had to be "open", in that they could be accessed by users all over the world, submitting requests and getting immediate responses at all hours of the day and night, 24/365.
- The systems had to be super-secure so that no unauthorized accesses to the systems could be possible.
And I called it bullshit, and everyone got upset because I said "bullshit" to a general. Everyone that is except the general. A software system that is both open and secure is an oxymoron. A system can be completely open to the whole world, or it can be completely secure, but not both at the same time.
Systems at that time were responsive, but not instantaneously responsive because, for security reasons, there was an "air gap" between the open accesses of users all over the world, and the response part of the transactions, which were on another and more secret, and thus inaccessible computer kept in an entirely different sealed-off room. So there had to be a delay between a user's input and his receipt of the necessary output. It was a two-mainframe system.
The "open" part of a system came into a secure mainframe, and periodically a human being would carry the requests from that computer on hardware, perhaps tape or disk, (today it might be a thumb drive) to the other super-secure mainframe that contains all the information that would satisfy the requests that came in from all over the world.
This super-secure computer had no outside the room connectivity at all.
He would then hand walk the responses from that computer, on hardware, back to the "open systems" mainframe and all the users would get their responses. So there was a delay, sometimes as long as an hour, but the systems were secure.
Very nearly absolutely secure. To my knowledge no one ever hacked into any of the old mainframe secure systems. Today, it seems like every time I turn around there is another story about another unauthorized access into various classified defense systems.
This little trip down memory lane was triggered by the new AI stories in the news, because it occurred around the time that, in my mind, all information seemed to be being gathered into one big easily accessed mess. Everyone was talking about the coming "information highway" that would come to be known as the internet, or the world-wide-web.
Already, there were such things as online bulletin boards, the precursors of all the social media apps. Soon I discovered that the entire Encyclopedia Britannica was available and searchable on line. Now, there is nothing you can name that is not searchable on line. The Catechism of the Catholic Church. Whole libraries of information.
What does easy access to all this "knowledge" do to homo sapiens?
Concern lights began blinking when the "New Math" was announced, and kids were learning "spacial relationships" rather than multiplication tables. Alarm bells began ringing when they dropped the requirement for cursive reading and writing. Claxon horns went off when students started carrying super-sophisticated pocket calculators into advanced math classes.
All that was nothing compared to what we're looking at now with AI.
Today school children are carrying in their pockets cell phones that are essentially super-computers compared to the mainframes of my day, with open connectivity to virtually all the information in the world.
And, as a group, they are dumber than a box of rocks.
A majority of American primary education graduates are way the hell below what used to be graduating requirements for literacy and math. Multiple grades below. We're talking near illiteracy here.
I used to worry about children no longer learning critical thinking; now, with AI, they don't have to think at all. AI supplies all the answers to all of their questions, instantly.
- When man no longer thinks, is he still man?
- What happens when and if everything electronic fails?
It appears to me that younger generations of Americans are living virtual lives in their hand held computers, and moving farther and farther away from hard actual reality. Virtual relationships now often outnumber the real in-person relationships. Look at the numbers of suicides over something someone said in an online open chat or on a social media post. Look at the numbers of youngsters lured into rape, murder, kidnapping or other criminal situations by trusted on line conversations with "virtual" personalities.
Cell phones are becoming the all important centers of people's lives.
We used to warn children against men offering them candy and rides in their cars; now, we have to worry about the cell phones in their pockets putting their very lives and their immortal souls at risk.
And what about the rest of us? How dependent are we on these things?
You need to look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrJDWTPJOME for a comprehensive view of where AI is going, and taking us all along with it, whether we want to go along or not.
The whole thing got started with the not-so-gradual cultural acceptance and scientificallizing, if that's a word, of the error (heresy?) of Evolution displacing Genesis in the collective mind of man. Evolution is not proved, in fact it is disproved, and yet it is still taught in all formal education, all over the world, as if it were proven fact. Which it is not. See the Darwinism pages.
Fr. Teilhard de Chardin, S.J., 1881-1955, a French Jesuit Priest, paleontologist, philosopher and mystic set out to reconcile evolution and Catholicism by inventing a "theological evolution", or, an "evolutionary theology". He added two more "phases" of evolution to Darwin's theory, leading to the final product we're seeing today in AI:
- Cosmogenesis: the evolution of matter.
- Biogenesis: the evolution of life.
- Noogenesis: the evolution of consciousness and thought.
As usual, all theory, no evidences and no empiricism.
There are supposedly brilliant Catholics today who think Chardin was even more brilliant than they suppose themselves to be, but in my estimation, Chardin was nuttier than a fruitcake.
It was out of his wild assed Cosmogenesis theories that the Big Bang was theorized by Fr. Georges Lemaitre, using Hubble's law of the expansion of the universe as the theory's foundation. But that's it. There is nothing else supporting it.
Supporters of Big Bang insist that is must be true, because, what else could it be? Indicating that they have already abandoned Genesis as anything to be scientifically considered, which indicates further that science, having been stripped away from philosophy in the Enlightenment, is forever set at odds with theology as its main enemy.
Today, many (most?) Priests never met a miracle they couldn't somehow scientifically explain away, indicating that they no longer believe in the miraculous, the otherworldly, or Christianity. They are fools, playacting at science, playacting at living their vocations and living a lie.
They have been fooled by the world.
Chardin may have been trying to reconcile material science with theology, but that may not be done by compromising or "blending" theology with anything else at all, let alone with any disproven theory. Evolutionary Theology is every bit as scientifically erroneous as is evolutionary theory itself, or more so.
So, Cosmogenesis is an unproven excuse to ignore Genesis, and Biogeneis is an unproven excuse to ignore Genesis. So, what about this Noogenesis theory?
Noogenesis is supposed to be the final stage of evolution; it is evolution of the mind, consciousness, interpersonal relationships, where human cognition - thought - transforms the biosphere. Transforms man. Links biology with thought and technology to create a "collective Intelligence".
And, ...
Combining human minds with technology making new conscious beings.
Look back at Freud's supposedly scientific but actually lunatic ramblings about the subconscious mind, repressed memories, etc., all further embellished by the gnostic Jung's "disembodied consciousnesses" and a "collective consciousness", all supposedly floating around out there in the ether.
And then look at Elan Musk's Neuralink company, which has created a human brain - computer interface for medical and long-term human-machine applications.
Neuralink has developed a microchip for implanting in human brains to interact, in a wireless way, with computers. The chip can interact with computers, and through computers, interact with AI. These chips have already been successfully implanted in the brains of living human beings, approximately twenty at this time.
The first one enabled the paralyzed implantee to sit in front of a computer screen and successfully play a video game, without touching anything. His thoughts were sufficient to play the game. The communications went both ways, from the computer game to the implantee, and from the implantee to the computer game.
This could potentially be the 21st century's Frankenstein monster.
It is the merging of the biological with the mechanical. The beginning of man-created, replicated and continuously "improved" living beings that are part human and part machine.
To what end?
All the Neuralink implantees thus far have been seriously handicapped people and the implant provided them abilities to connect with others and with the larger world, and even with parts of their own bodies that they didn't have before, with wonderful possibilities. Through connectivity with computers, the dumb may speak, the deaf may hear, the blind may see.
But bio-human technology cannot be limited to the disabled by Neuralink, and in fact there are now multiple bio-human competitor companies operating out there, so that cat is out of the bag. It's going to become a race to get the most implantees out there proving the product as quickly as possible, and the implants will not be limited to the disabled.
The Problem With AI
The fatal flaw in Artificial Intelligence rests in the quantity and perhaps even predominance of false and erroneous information available to it. The whole premise of AI rests on its ability to quickly find and go through every bit of information ever recorded by man related to a specific presented question and use it to return the most certain answer to that question.
But what if the majority of all that stored information favors Islam, and/or Marxism, and/or Hedonism, and/or Racism, an/or Anarchy, and/or Woke-DEI, and/or Psychoanalysis, and/or Parapsychology, and/or Transsexualism, and/or Evolution, and/or Climate Change, and/or Genetic Racism, and/or Trump Derangement Syndrome, etc., etc., etc.?
Persons educated and raised in DEI will not recognize good and evil, they will choose diversity over commonality and inclusion over exclusion, with upside down logic in which they will befriend and welcome in their own most vicious enemy robbers, rapists, enslavers, torturers and murderers.
The old computer adage GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out) still applies.
When Text books for everything taught are tainted with falsehoods for political purposes, they represent one mountain of misinformation among the many that AI will include in its quick composing of solutions to problems, answers to questions and guidance for actions.
If the information is mostly evil, the implantee will be mostly evil.
This could just as easily be the making of biomechanical barbarians as brilliant saviors, and saviors of what, exactly?
Humanity, or, Bio-humanity?
Neuralink, in the end, may prove to be another great folly of man.
There is no worldly savior.
There is one and only one Savior, and He is not man-made.
It's the other way around. Face it.

Vic, AI is not just "one big easily accessed mess" of information. It is a careful collection of knowledge in specific disciplines such as especially medical research and cancer research. If an oncologist needs to search all known similarities to his patient the patient may well hit the point of no return before he finishes his searching. Surely you don't mean to say that medical history is politically corrupted. Or do you?

Yes, I do. What I do not say is that doctors should not use AI. They should use every tool available to them, but they should use AI very grudgingly and suspiciously, because it is, after all, artificial.
No MD should completely trust AI after the malpractice industrial complex created by the Covid quarantining, masking, vaccinating, distancing, disinfecting, business shutdowns, etc., or for that matter the Transsexualism industry, Abortion industry, Eugenics industry, transplant organ "harvesting" industry, HIV "treatment" industry, etc.
Pick your research subject, and you will find similar mountains of bad information that has become corrupted as "good" information in many or even most professional minds.
It's the same situation we wrote about way back when we first wrote the SLIMC1 hover-link for this website.Modern elitist "intellectuals" equate their carefully gathered specialized piles of facts with wisdom; but they are just piles of facts. If they don't know how to apply critical thinking to them, or the now nearly abandoned scientific method, and prefer to just go with the majority vote of their peers based on their piles of facts, then they are not wise, or even very smart. Democratic, maybe, but not smart.
