You may say it's about autonomy, but what is autonomy in the absence of sovereignty? Man is a social being, in need of family, religion, morality and a nation, and each of these have sovereign boundaries. The great lesson of World War II was the sacredness of national sovereignty. The victorious nations all agreed that no nation was ever to be allowed to invade or otherwise infringe the sovereignty of any other nation.
The fly in the ointment was that one of the victorious nations, Russia, which had become the USSR, was a nation that was determined to invade or otherwise infringe the sovereignty of all other nations on earth.
How soon we forget that World War II was begun by a pact between two tyrannical Marxists, Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler, to divide the European nations up between them.
"But, Russia was on our side!" shout the American Communists. (I mean Marxocrats.) And yes, Russia was on our side, but only after Hitler violated their mutual non-aggression treaty and kicked off Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of Russia. Then Stalin was on our side; and even after that, unlike all the the other allied forces, he never relinquished tyrannical control over any sovereign nation his forces rolled over. They never got their sovereignty back after the war was concluded. They became part of the USSR. They "disappeared" as once sovereign nations
And yet, that's what the war was about: Sovereignty.
In a very real sense, to me, World War II never really ended. The USSR never stopped infringing the sovereignty or invading sovereign nations, acting under the title of Communism, which was advertised as something good rather than something more akin to tyrannical world conquest.
After victory in Europe and victory in Japan, the first real test of the sovereignty-protecting nations was Korea. Communist North Korea invaded the sovereign nation of South Korea. The UN, not yet totally corrupted and Communized, organized forces from many sovereign nations to go and push the North Koreans back.
The effort was undone by the lack of will of President Truman to pursue total war and fight to actually win a victory. He fired General MacArthur and instituted what became known as "Limited War". Thus, it never ended. It's still a stalemate and a stand-off, after all these years.
Meanwhile evil Communist ideology under the cover of Cultural Marxism was "educating" America and the West in the "goodness" of Communism and the evil of Capitalism, and instigating a "peace" movement and an anti-war sentiment, which was picked up by Hollywood and all entertainment.
The next test came with the invasion of the sovereign nation of South Vietnam by Communist North Vietnam. By this time, America, the West and the UN had been more and more "Communized" in their thinking and opposed to war, almost for any reason whatsoever. This time, only a few UN nations chose to fight off a Communist incursion. The USA, Australia and South Korea, and that was about it. And there was a constant political drumbeat against it, from the West; from those who had formerly agreed that all were to unite against any invading force of a sovereign nation.
To this day, all these years later, you will still hear "conservative" voices saying that Vietnam was a big mistake, we never should have gotten involved, it was none of our business, it was perhaps the biggest mistake America ever made.
Now, look what's happening in Europe, and look at what the free world is doing about it.
Well, next to nothing. Communist Traitor-John Kerry reminds Putin to not lose focus on climate change even as he crushes Ukraine and sets his sights on the Baltics.

Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and
broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in
thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life:
and few there are that find it! Beware of false prophets, who come to you in
the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Jesus Christ; Matt 7:13-15
"We belong to the Church militant; and She is militant because on earth the powers of darkness are ever restless to encompass Her destruction. Not only in the far-off centuries of the early Church, but down through the ages and in this our day, the enemies of God and Christian civilization make bold to attack the Creator’s supreme dominion and sacrosanct human rights.”--Pope Pius XII
"It is not lawful to take the things of others to give to the poor. It is a sin worthy of punishment, not an act deserving a reward, to give away what belongs to others."--St. Francis of Assisi
