Collectivism, collective thought and the collective imagination of Socialism may be the worst infection ever introduced, indoctrinated, propagandized and induced into the American collective psyche.
It is amazing how successful Cultural Marxism has been in inducing "Collective Thought" in so many American minds. Reading, watching and listening to the mainstream media is like being in a room full of trained parrots and mynah birds who all say the same things, speaking, listening, hearing, mimicking and repeating each other, ad infinitum.
Collectivism, thy name is news media.
Not an original thought between them all.
By created nature, man is a competitive being. Human life is a life of competition. We compete with siblings for parental attention; we compete for favor and love; we compete in school for better grades, or on the field of sports, or for recognized positions in music, for friends, including boyfriends and girlfriends.
We compete to get into higher schools, for the better jobs, for every rung on the ladder of success. Even in team sports, we compete to be the captain of the team, or for certain positions on the team, or for player of the year, etc.
It's all individual competition, individual-oriented. Everyone wants to get ahead of the game, to improve his own condition in life.
Salvation itself is an individual thing. Individuals are called, and individuals respond, or not, of their own free will. You cannot just join some group and expect to be saved because everyone in the group is saved. Salvation is not a collective thing, although the corrupted teaching of corrupted bishops and popes since Vatican II seem to emphasis collective salvation in their "synods", and synods on synods.
Collectivism has infected theological minds too.

There is a form or branch of competition that is horrible and wonderful at the same time. Many combat veterans have experienced it and have a hard time explaining it; perhaps because it cannot be sufficiently explained, it can only be experienced.
War is, in it's essence, a killing contest. The ultimate competition. The combatant competes to kill his opponent before his opponent kills him.
The adrenalin pump goes both ways; it is horrifying, and exhilarating, at the highest levels, at the same time. To win the contest is the most glorious of feelings; yet, the horror of it never totally leaves the mind.
And doesn't that compare to our Lord's suffering as he died on the cross? Was it not both horrible and magnificent at the same time? A horrible and a glorious thing, simultaneously.
A horror to be celebrated.
Natural Individualism Versus Unnatural Collectivism
There is no such thing as group salvation. Individual souls gain salvation by finding the way, living the life and following the truth, one soul at a time. No one can do it for you, and no collective can do it for you. You're on your own in finding your way and making your choices.
Similarly, there is no such thing as group prosperity in this world. You prosper, or not, by your own free will choices. No one is going to make you healthy, wealthy or wise, and no collective will do it either. You do that on your own, independently, or, you become someone's dependent.
There is a correlation between individual salvation and the individual rights in the American constitution. American civil rights are not collective rights; they are individual rights, guaranteed to all citizens.
In his 1776 The Wealth Of Nations Adam Smith accurately described the created natural inclination of human beings to strive to "get ahead"; to continuously try to improve their own condition in life, just as an instinctive thing to do. People who strive to "get ahead" generally do indeed get ahead, and those who are moral in the Judeo-Christian sense of that word are also charitable, and willingly help others to get ahead.
That's nature. That's how we were created. And that's what Christians are properly raised to do.
Collectivism, on the other hand, is unnatural, doesn't work as well in that it is never as productive as individualism, and the socialism that sponsors collectivism is evil.
Natural individualism combined with Judeo-Christian morality is what gave birth to and is the foundation of Capitalism, and the rise of that terrible nemesis of Socialism, the hated bourgeoisie.
Marx's hate-filled manifesto mentions the bourgeoisie some 195 times, always negatively, as a "class" of people to be loathed and despised, because of their individualism and independence, and their ability to prosper on their own.
First of all,
- Socialism is just a political dirty trick, aimed at fooling national populations into being dominated by dictators. Communism, Bolshevism, Maoism, Leninism, Stalinism, Fascism and Nazism are all forms of Socialism and the only differences between any of them are the dictators themselves. Socialism doesn't work; Socialism is a psychological trap used to achieve dictatorship.
- The bourgeoisie make liars of Marx and Engels because they are the world's sole creators of wealth. Adam Smith said it way back in 1776: the lowly citizen, left to his own devices in freedom, is the sole source of all new wealth, and the sole source of the wealth of nations. [See USA Capitalism.]
The bourgeois, in their efforts to improve their own condition in life, be those efforts ever so humble, make their nations wealthy in two ways.
- They pay taxes, which are revenue for the nations.
- They buy goods and services, which can be taxed within nations and can be tariff-taxed internationally, more revenue for nations.
Only citizens make wealth.
Governments only consume wealth; they cannot create it.
What proves individualism and disproves collectivism is the bourgeoisie.
The bigger, freer and more moral the middle-class of any nation is allowed to be, the wealthier that nation will be. The whole secret to national wealth is a free and moral citizenry.
The USA has (or had) the largest and most moral bourgeois middle class on earth. Therefore, the USA became the wealthiest nation on earth.
Expendable income or expendable property is, definitively, wealth.
The more expendable income in the bourgeois pocket the more the whole national economy will grow, because the more of it there is, the more of it will be spent on something. Foreign nations want to sell in nations that want to buy; producers of goods and services, both foreign and domestic, will beat the path to the guy who wants their goods and services, and they will expand their ability to produce goods and services to match the demand.
The whole not so secret secret to national wealth is more expendable income in the pockets of the bourgeoisie.
Collectivism is trying to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
To be bourgeois is to be that golden goose.
