Mathematics is an exact science, or so said Mrs. Noonan, my homeroom teacher in 7th and 8th grade back in 1957-1958 elementary school. It was both the path into and the final proofs of all of the other sciences. Those scientific "facts" that have been elevated beyond the lofty titles of scientific theories and into scientific laws, are just about always proven to be laws through mathematics.
Mathematics is certainly the most trusted of the sciences, for the simple reason that mathematics are inviolable. The "Laws" of physics, chemistry, etc., are proven to be scientific laws mathematically.
What we are talking about here is the principle of inviolability.
Long agao, Dr. Alice von Hildebrand alluded to the inviolability of objective truth in a way that struck me in its simplicity and its unavoidable reality. All she said was that,
Subjective opinion is something entirely different. The world of human thought is in continuous and constant argument between objective reality and subjective opinion. That is where science, always supplemented by mathematics, steps in to the picture.
We have taken our shots at modern day corrupted "science" among the Scientism Pages, and especially among the Darwinism Pages. There are other sources better than these, among them, the Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation, and the IDVolution website.
It was in IDVolution that I found this video presentation by Dr. Jason Lisle. Click on the image below to play it from YouTube. It's long, and if you're not into advanced math, you might be tempted to drop out early, but please, be patient and hang in there. It builds slowly, but what it builds toward is really worth the effort to stay with it.
Where did all this complexity come from?
A breath, or glance, or nod, or an afterthought, of God.
Mathematices existed before man existed.
2 + 2 = 4 was true before Adam walked the earth, and it will be true after the end of this world.
It doesn't depend on man. Man depends on it.
Again, mathematics is entirely conceptual.
It does not even exist anywhere outside of an intelligent mind.
Mathematics, like God, like Creation, like Life, does not ever change. The formula 2 + 2 = 4 does not evolve or change in any way, no matter what any contemporary teacher may say or think of believe or teach or try to do about it.
The way it is is the way it always was and the way it will always be.
The only thing Truth has going for Him in this world is us.
The restoration of Truth = Reality in the hearts and minds of men is now totally dependent upon you and me; if we don't do it, it won't get done.

Math is not the most trusted of the sciences - because it has no experimental value within itself. Because math is simply a language of variables we use to conveniently describe laws that govern natural phenomena. It cannot drive science - experimentation does that. But when this language is not used correctly - if it is not used to describe but... Let's say, "compose poetry in equations", science is corrupted. Quantum magic - so long hammered by so many people as blatant rip-off off Babylonian and Hindu mysticism - is a direct product of the over-infatuation of physicists and other theoreticians with theory and math instead of scientific logic and actual experiments. That's why, for example, you have such theory as quantum chromodynamics - a theory where there are 6 quarks and 9 gluons and color charge that these particles supposedly participate in. A lot of Nobel prizes and funding is given to this - especially when absolutely no quarks, no gluons and no color charge have EVER been concretely, truly seen in particle accelerators. And what of the rest of the Standard Model? The less said about weak force/W-bosons having more mass/energy then entire atoms of iron and yet all of them "scientists" literally using "borrowing from the vacuum" for the process of the W-boson flipping one quark (which is unseen) to another, the better. It's honestly frightening as to why people don't use basic logic to question physics. In the Standard Model, we are told that particles are, well, points, despite the fact that they interact with each other. But a point is a mathematical construct - a point is a 1-dimensional object. But reality is 3-dimensional and, thus, every object must have volume and surface. We even have proof of that, given that we have the Planck scale (energy, mass, etc.) - a collection of measurement units derived not from a choice of prototype object, but from properties of natural forces. And if the Standard Model is wrong about the very nature of the particles they're supposed to study - due to logically-flawed theories - how can they hope to get real data? No, they just match the experiment to data derived from preexisting equations - not the other way around. So, in my opinion, overuse of math leads to scientism.

But the fact that mathematics are misused and abused by so many with ulterior and frequently political motives does not change the inviolability of real mathematics. Most of this may be above my level of scholarship, but it remains a fairly high level of scholarship. I did win the perfect attendance record for 5th grade for eight years in a row.1 You may laugh at that, like all the others, but that record still stands after all these years.
So practitioners of modern day scientism make equations to match their theories and then use the preexisting equations to "prove" the theories, with toasts, congratulations and cigars all around. All well and good.
But still, standing before us, is the 2 + 2 = 4 that preexisted Adam, and that will still be true after the last man standing finally assumes room temperature.
1. Actually this line was borrowed from the Jethro Bodine character in an old Beverly Hillbillies episode.

Well, "real" math IS simple, just like reality itself is. The fact that it's extensions - algebra and geometry - all got so complicated that a layman cannot comprehend them for the most part is part of the problem that let the practitioners of scientism isolate themselves from proper high-level criticism of the very nature of their theories. Remember - there was a reason why Karl Popper - a true philosopher of science - pestered Einstein and the rest of scientists in the 40's on their lack of study of scientific philosophy. I mean, if they studied that, they wouldn't be trying to sell us frameworks of something that can't exist. For example, Einstein told us all that gravity is a consequence of spacetime "curving" from mass. How can that be? Space - by definition - is only a distance between objects or a void between them. And time is simply an operational measure of velocity. These things do not exist like an atom or a molecule do. They are concepts - useful concepts, but just concepts. But modern theoretical physics assigns real-world properties, extensions and forces to these things. That's why they can't reconcile gravity from Einstein's theory with predictions for gravity of the Standard Model. Because they assume that what's a void between objects/space can somehow "curve" and exert real force on objects and particles. This is a problem that would've been avoided if only one philosopher asked them why space - a human concept - is made into this "action at a distance" thing by flawed modern mathematics. Even Nikola Tesla said that space cannot be curved because it is nothing.

Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and
Broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in
thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life:
and few there are that find it! Beware of false prophets, who come to you in
