A Caliph is Islam's version of a Pope, except that he is both secular and religious absolute ruler. Popes have only ruled the Catholic Church, not empires, although the Papal Estates were once a lot broader than the Vatican of today. The only reason for any Papal territory at all is so that the Pope may not be under the rule of any secular ruler.
A Caliph, on the other hand, is supposed to be the successor of Mohammed, and as such, the absolute supreme religious and political ruler of the Caliphate. He is the whole government.
The Sunni-Shia split came about with the death of Mohammed, in an argument over who the very first successor should be, and the Moslems have been fighting over that question ever since. It always turned out to be the "successor" who was politically and militarily powerful enough to declare himself Caliph.
The last really serious Caliphate was the Ottoman Empire, founded in 1299 by Osmon I, and ended in 1923 by Attaturk.
Two major ideological/political forces drive Islamic Jihadists today.
There cannot be two or more successors to Mohammed ruling Islam.
Most big time Jihadist leaders don't verbalize their hopes or plans or intentions to make themselves Caliph, because the minute they do that, they put a target on themselves, because every other big time Jihadist really wants the title for himself.
Again, there can only be one successor to Mohammed in the world at any one time.
The successful Obama/Hillary/Al Qaeda conspiracy to ship arms from Al Qaeda in Libya (Benghazi) through Turkey to Al Qaeda in Syria was the beginning point of the transformation of Al Qaeda in Syria into ISIS.
And the world saw conflict between Al Qaeda and ISIS, because there can only be one Caliph.
It gets even weirder.
At different times, Iranian Shia were aligned with Sunni and even Americans against ISIS, because, again, there can only be one Caliph.
They all seek hegemony over the region, and over each other.
It was Iran's drive for hegemony over a new strategic "Shia Crescent" that drove Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and others into strategic miliarty alliance with, guess who, Israel, and the US.
It was the drive for hegemony over the declared ISIS state that drove Iranian proxy forces into alliance with, guess who, the US.
The minute any one of these Islamic nuts declares a Caliphate into being and declares himself to be the Caliph, the whole Islamic world tunes in, and Moslems from the four corners of the world will immediately join his cause. Baghdadi proved it.
At the same time, every Islamic nation and faction and Jihadist group that still wants to be autonomous turns their guns toward the newly declared Caliph. It's truly risky business, calling yourself a Caliph. Not only the non-Islamic world is against you, but so is most of the established and actively Jihadist Islamic world against you.
The world of Islam is nuts. Full of dangerous looney-tune screwballs.
They have been alternatively allying with each other and going to war with each other since the death of Mohammed. It's never going to stop.
President Trump is right on the money in trying to extricate us from the whole region in as much as that can be done. It's just not our fight.
The only thing Truth has going for Him in this world is us.
The restoration of Truth = Reality in the hearts and minds of men is now totally dependent upon you and me; if we don't do it, it won't get done.

If US would help revolution in Iran it would turn peaceful and western, as it was under Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Us should help peaceful Persians to take their country back.

It would not be peaceful for long, so long as the predominant religion of the population remained Islam. Islam is the problem. Islam does not allow peace until there is no other religion, no other law and no other government.
Turkey was "westernized" under Ataturk, the government was secularized, education was secularized, and the harsher laws of Islam were suppressed. But "secular" government and "secular" society is not good enough to defeat the evils of Islam, so long as Islam remains the predominant religion of the population.
What is needed is massive willing conversion out of Islam. I don't see that happening. Look at Turkey today; it has returned to Islamism, that is, Islam in government and law as well as in religion.
And it was the same situation under Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran. He "westernized" Iran through a more secular government, made Iran rich beyond imagining, an economic and military powerhouse, improved life for everyone in Iran - but - it remained predominantly Islamic by population, and that was the doom of it all. The Shah changed the benchmark for the Iranian calendar to begin with Cyrus the Great's first Persian monarchy instead of from Mohammed's Hegira, marking 2,500 years of continuous Persian monarchy.
But, in the end, what doomed the Persian monarchy was the persistence of Islam as the predominant religion of the masses. All of that secularism and westernism was against the religion of Islam. The Islamic revolution was inevitable, simply because the koran says what it says. You can get around that for a while, but not forever.
Islam is not peace. Islam cannot indefinitely coexist in peace with any form of non-Islam.
That's just the way it is.
Never be lukewarm.
Life itself demands passion.
He who is indifferent to God has already forfeited his soul.
He who is indifferent to politics has already forfeited his liberty.

Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and
broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in
thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life:
and few there are that find it! Beware of false prophets, who come to you in
the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Jesus Christ; Matt 7:13-15
"We belong to the Church militant; and She is militant because on earth the powers of darkness are ever restless to encompass Her destruction. Not only in the far-off centuries of the early Church, but down through the ages and in this our day, the enemies of God and Christian civilization make bold to attack the Creator’s supreme dominion and sacrosanct human rights.”--Pope Pius XII
"It is not lawful to take the things of others to give to the poor. It is a sin worthy of punishment, not an act deserving a reward, to give away what belongs to others."--St. Francis of Assisi
