The reason for the Second Amendment was not to allow the citizenry to hunt ducks. It was intended to allow the citizenry to keep themselves free. The Second Amendment was the final check on the government, to keep it from going tyrannical, in accordance with the Declaration, to quote:
What that indicates is that the Second Amendment was written to grant the citizenry the right to keep and bear military weaponry, comparable to the military weaponry common to the era. There is no reason whatsoever that any weapon suitable for war cannot be used quite effectively for hunting.
The first requirement of a shotgun or a rifle for any American citizen should be that it be a tactical weapon first, before it is anything else. There is no reason that a "trench gun" or "street sweeper" type shotgun cannot be used for deer hunting.
You might want to change the barrel and choke combination for birds, but it would be equally up to that task too.
The same can be said for a citizen rifle. A good tactical rifle makes a supreme hunting rifle.
A .50 calibler Beowulf, which is an excellent vehicle stopper, is a good, fast-action carbine for anything within 250 yards or so, for anything from varmints to the largest American game, or the largest game anywhere on earth.
A friend of mine told me that his Beowulf - not the model, and not the caliber, but his individual carbine - was the whole sole reason you don't see any elephants anywhere around Huber Heights Ohio any more. Challenged on there were never any elephants anywherearound here, he said yes there were, great big woolly ones. Asked if he actually shot them all, he said no, he didn't have to. Elephants are smart. No elephant in his right mind wants to be within range of that thing. All he had to do was buy that Beowulf and bring it home, and when the word got around, all the elephants left the Huber Heights area. He asks doubters if they've seen any elephants around here lately, and he holds their answer up as proof.
As far as handguns go it just doesn't get any better than the old vernerable 1911 A1 in .45. It's big but ergonomically perfect for the human hand. The flatness just fits. And you don't have to get fancy with loads and you don't need any hollow points; all you need are 230 grain full metal jackets. The single largest factor in handgun stopping power is the cross sectional aria of the entry wound, and the 0.4515 inch diameter .45 really gets it done at handgun velocities. There just is no better all around sidearm than the 1911.
If you "pocket carry" the Shield .45 is hard to beat. It's a single stack .45 so it's just as thin as the 1911, feels the same in the hand, and yet it's small enough to just drop in a pocket, and it shoots really, really well.
If you pocket carry but want a larger capacity (10 round) magazine, the BBR 3.10 .45 might be your choice. It's a real 1911 by design, but, with a double-stack magazine, it's fat; not the same grip as a 1911. And, it leaves your pinky hanging out in space, unsupported. A small thing. Just curl your pinky under it, get a good two-hand grip, get on target, and it does it's part if you do yours.
It's a matter of personal preference.
Once you can consistently hit with any .45, then you don't need a whole lot of shots. Practice, practice, practice. Whatever you shoot, you need to practice until hitting consistently becomes a second-nature, don't even have to think about it, kind of thing.
A lot of people in my age group find it difficult to load that very last round in the magazine of most modern .45s, and a speed loader comes in handy for that task. Mine is the Israeli UpLula and it makes the job easy.
We have talked about Gun Control, and the attack on Assault Weapons, unto death. Bottom line, every single gun control law on the books is a direct violation of the Second Amendment. Any gun control whatsoever is unconstitutional. Gun registration is unconstitutional. Federal, state and local gun control laws are all unconstitutional.
Read the simple, direct English words themselves:
How is any gun control law in existence not an "infringement" of the constitutional right?
I have mixed feelings about convicted felons losing the right.
In a perfect world, a felon would serve his sentence and be restored to full citizenry again, including the right to keep and bear arms, and recidivists would be permanently removed from civil society.
But it just ain't a perfect world, and the ongoing 2020 election fraud itself proves how corrupt our government, our courts and our lawyers are, and that lack of trust in American justice is just as deadly to American culture as any phony, junked-up election fraud.
Eventually, to ever get back to America's intended nature as founded, gun dealer restrictions need to be eliminated, gun registration records need to be destroyed, all gun laws need to be declared unconstitutional, null and void, and those who try to restrict citizen gun acquisition and/or carrying again ought to be prosecuted.
And that's my not so humble opinion.
The only thing Truth has going for Him in this world is us.
The restoration of Truth = Reality in the hearts and minds of men is now totally dependent upon you and me; if we don't do it, it won't get done.

In my country, we also have "licenses" and gun-prohibitory stuff like that. Frankly, I don't care about those - I can always bribe our corrupt policemen to look the other way if need be. So I still carry a gun or anything I want to (even brassknuckles at times) anywhere I want to - and I don't give a damn about any legalistic busybodies who think they know what I need for my protection better then I do. After all, these budybodies (in my country) typically live in opulent mansions, with 11-meter wired fences and cadres of bodyguards.
Never be lukewarm.
Life itself demands passion.
He who is indifferent to God has already forfeited his soul.
He who is indifferent to politics has already forfeited his liberty.
In America, religion is not mere window dressing and citizenship is not a spectator sport.

Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and
broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in
thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life:
and few there are that find it! Beware of false prophets, who come to you in
the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Jesus Christ; Matt 7:13-15
"We belong to the Church militant; and She is militant because on earth the powers of darkness are ever restless to encompass Her destruction. Not only in the far-off centuries of the early Church, but down through the ages and in this our day, the enemies of God and Christian civilization make bold to attack the Creator’s supreme dominion and sacrosanct human rights.”--Pope Pius XII
"It is not lawful to take the things of others to give to the poor. It is a sin worthy of punishment, not an act deserving a reward, to give away what belongs to others."--St. Francis of Assisi
