On the Religion-Politics Nexus: If the Religion is not true, the Politics will become evil.
For Martin Luther, Politics drove Religion. For Pope Francis, Religion drives Politics. Or does it?

Once again, Culture = Religion + Politics.
A commonly held moral code is what forms a distinct and identifiable People, and a distinct and identifiable People is what forms a Nation. Until the Protestant Reformation, all of Western Civilization was Roman Catholic. There was always a tension between Popes and Kings; generally, Popes crowned Kings, but stayed out of civil politics other than to advise and consent or admonish. Sometimes Kings tried to crown or somehow control Popes, but none dared to try to control the religion itself. Until Luther.
Fr. Luther's original disobedience unleashed the infamous Peasant's Revolt, lead by Munzer, which was the first skirmish in the long, horrible World War that history would record as The Reformation. You can read the details of this long and bloody war in For God and Country. It was Luther's own fiery rhetoric that incited Munzer and the Peasants to violence; but when he could not control them and he began to fear them himself, he turned to the Princes and Nobles to crush his own rebellion. With his "inspirational" rhetoric to the Princes, he invented a new maxim to add to the new Lutheran creed:
Cujus region, ejus rligio (Whoever’s reign, his religion.) A citizen’s religion became a matter of civil law. “He who owns the country owns the Church, and he that makes your laws for you has the right to make your religion for you.”
With all the cathedrals, churches, monasteries, convents and lands available for the taking and personal possessing, the Princes were off and running, and the World War was on. This was Western Civilization's first experience with a radical combination of Church and State. It was rule of Man, not rule of law; nothing new there. But, after the Reformation, a man - a Noble - ruled not only the civil order, but the religious order as well. A mere man became master of all aspects of life in Europe's new kingdoms and noble domains.
Why America was born.
The first Colonists came to America specifically and precisely to get away from the radical combination of Church and State. They came here to worship as they saw fit, regardless of the authority of any Noble. Despite their overwhelming infection with the primary heresies of Luther - Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide - the Colonists sought a return to the original Catholic system of separate authorities for civil law and religious law. But without a Pope.
The lack of one single religious authority was the serious flaw that, in America's new religious freedom, would put Protestant Denominationalism on steroids, resulting in untold thousands of profitable new and newer denominations, just as fast as they could be interpreted or imagined into being.
Even in her imperfection, once the American nation was "Constituted" into a Republic, she became the world's first nation of laws and not of mere men. Men come and go, but the law remains. So the Political side of America had come perhaps as close as any worldly thing can come to perfection. But what about the religious side?
Secularism v Catholicism and Protestant Denominationalism.
Forced secularism of American society began with an unconstitutional and therefore illegal action of the Supreme Court, in establishing the "Constitutional Principle" of Separation of Church and State. In a deliberate gross mal-interpretation of the First Amendment, the Court put legal restrictions on the Government, the various Churches and the people that were never intended by the writers of the First Amendment, and that cannot be found in the simple English wording of the religion clause of the Amendment.
Congress
shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; ...
Very simple, nothing to it. Two restrictions are placed upon the government, and no restrictions whatsoever are placed on the citizenry. Those two restrictions on the government are:
- The government may not establish an official government religion.
- The government may not interfere with any citizen's exercise of their religion.
That's it. Anything beyond that is a violation of the Constitution, and a violation of the Oath of Office of any officer of the federal government.
Nevertheless, with that unrepresentative, un-legislated, Court invented New Law, the American government began to secularize - that is, religiously cleanse - itself, the public square, and the American people. Through tax policy and IRS rules, through arguably unconstitutional funding of schools and universities, the federal government began imposing a religion - either atheism or the appearance of atheism - upon the whole nation. It was the beginning of the "put your religion aside" movement in certain areas of human activity. The classroom, the workplace, the public square, the government office, etc.
If you are a Christian, putting your religion aside is against your religion.
Marxism kicks the rebellion of Luther and Munzer up a notch.
The evil ideology of Karl Marx, who considered religion to be the "opiate of the masses", was driving the State Forced Secularism religious denominational bus long before the American Supreme Court got on board.
Marxism operates on both sides of the religion-politics nexus. While it seeks to crush religion on the one side, it also raises Munzer's rabid anti-authoritarianism and anti-institutionalism to new levels on the political side, insisting on a brutally enforced egalitarianism, while pretending to be "humanitarian" and "fair".
Marxist ideology now drives one of America's two great political Parties, the Marxocrat Party, and it has made major inroads into the other one, the Republicrat Party. The agendas of both Parties are so distracted with worldly things, frauds and falsehoods, and supposed "humanitarian" needs that neither of them support or even recognize the Constitution they are sworn to uphold.
Marxism infects Catholic thought.
The humanitarian false-face of Marxism has, to some degree, seduced many ranking Catholic clerics, Popes included. We first spoke of this in Papal Globalism, and it now appears that Pope Francis is considerably deeper under the influence of Marxism's humanitarian spell. I don't think he recognizes it for the mortal enemy that it is. Vietnam taught America - or should have taught America - that the enemy most likely to take you out is the enemy who is not recognized as an enemy. The enemy who has convinced you that he is your friend.
That is why I so despise the lie, and attack falsehood on sight.
In Vietnam, the deceptive Viet Cong terrorists moved freely among the people, appearing to be other than what they were. In America, at the same time, Communist activists and propagandists moved freely among the politicians, and among the journalists and commentators, and among the entertainment-celebrity news makers, and among teachers and academics, appearing to be other than what they were. Inciting the riots in the streets of America that ultimately lost the war, they advanced the cause of Marxism at the expense of human liberty, and at the cost of untold thousands of lives. All based on lies and deception. On unrecognized treachery.
The only clear and unambiguous statements Pope Francis has issued all have to do with either achieving global egalitarianism through global government, or global action to save the world from man-caused environmental disaster, or "unsustainable" over-use of limited resources, or horrible pollution, failure to recycle, etc. All notions born of or co-opted by the flagrant lies and open frauds of Marxism, aimed at government control of all human activity, and government control of all human beings, including the Pope. That's the future New Word Order Pope Francis is cooperating with Marxism to create, knowingly or otherwise.
This is clouded thinking, at the very least.
What Pope Francis is promoting, but not in these words, is the legally forced redistribution of earned income, and the legally forced redistribution of legitimately held wealth. Which is to say, private property. The end of private property in favor of communal property. We tried that here, in Colonial Communism; it didn't work. It never does. It never has. It cannot.
But, what Pope Francis and "humanitarian" Marxists fail to recognize is that that is not even the ultimate goal of Marxism. Humanitarianism is only the lure. Power is the goal. Control. Totalitarianism. On a global scale. If and when any global totalitarian New World Order comes into being, Satan will rule it. It is his world, after all.
Humanitarian Marxism on both sides of the nexus.
Humanitarian Marxism pushes such economic absurdities as, for instance, minimum wage laws, and right to work laws, as "moral" issues.
If you establish work as a human right, then you must find and order someone to supply all the jobs, whether they like it or not. The only people who will be able to obey such orders, eventually, will be people running governments. So, universal right to work means, eventually, absolute government control and employment of all work.
A legally set wage violates the natural laws of supply and demand, which automatically and naturally set the prices of everything, including labor. If you artificially set the price of labor to produce a good or service without considering the price of raw materials and tools, and without considering market demand for the finished product, you will eventually be forced to fix the prices of raw materials, tools, and finished product, or, go out of business. So, eventually, the government that employs everyone will also set the prices of everything.
It is a falsehood that Americans won't do the work criminal aliens now do. It is illegal for Americans to work below legal minimum wage. If it were legal, they would work. Many Americans do work, illegally, off the record and off the grid, solely because of the insufferable existing myriad of government employment, wage, benefit and tax laws and bureaucratic regulations. Can anyone blame them?
Neither Religion nor Politics should be controlling the free market.
These are economic, not moral issues; we should leave nature alone.
Papal fuzziness on the real moral issues.
Clarity goes away when we turn to the Catholic view of immoral behaviors. Pope Francis says we should be less fixated and obsessed with such issues as "abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods", and concentrate our efforts more on the essentials of the Gospel and the missionary mission of the Church.
OK ...
I don't know whether this represents ignorance of or acquiescence to the predominant types of scandalous public mortal sinners who are now fully participating in Catholic Sacramental life in America and probably everywhere else in the world. While granting that this was not a crystal clear statement of the Pope, it certainly seems that these particular moral issues should be addressed in perfectly crystal clear language, one way or the other.
Protestantism has already been down this trail. Germany's Cardinal Kaspar is not breaking any new ground promoting divorce and remarriage in the Church; the Church of England, under Henry the Eighth, was founded on divorce and remarriage. That's the whole basis for the denomination, and the sole reason that it exists. Is that the direction we now want the whole Catholic Church to go?
So it is with contraception. Are we to follow the lead of Protestantism? Now, our own Supreme Court, sworn to uphold the Constitution, has unconstitutionally declared homosexual "marriage" to be a "constitutional" civil right. Would we be considered obsessed with the mortal sinfulness and glaring immorality of it if we continued to resist this social march toward hell?
Where, exactly, are all of our Bishops leading us?
I'm just asking the question that nobody seems to want to answer.

This latest from Church Militant exemplifies what we all should be doing. If we are serious about our faith, we need to say it, out loud, and live it, and take the consequences, and just keep saying it and living it. Do we believe what we say we believe, or not?
