Today at Mass Archbishop Schnurr’s letter of January 25, 2012 was read from the pulpit, and a copy was placed in the bulletin. It seems that the systematic destruction of the foundation and Constitution of America is now going on steroids. First, Rick Santorum warned us about the direct challenge to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – the very foundation stones upon which America is Constituted – and now we have this informative letter from the Archbishop of Cincinnati going one better. First, let me present that letter right here.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
I write to you concerning an alarming and serious matter that negatively impacts the Church in the United States directly, and that strikes at the fundamental right to religious liberty for all citizens of any faith. The federal government, which claims to be “of, by, and for the people,” has just dealt a heavy blow to almost a quarter of those people – the Catholic population – and to the millions more who are served by the Catholic faithful.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced last week that almost all employers, including Catholic employers, will be forced to offer their employees’ health coverage that includes sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception. Almost all health insurers will be forced to include those “services” in the health policies they write. And almost all individuals will be forced to buy that coverage as a part of their policies.
We cannot – we will not – comply with this unjust law. People of faith cannot be made second-class citizens. We are already joined by our brothers and sisters of all faiths and many others of good will in this important effort to regain our religious freedom. Our parents and grandparents did not come to these shores to help build America’s cities and towns, its infrastructure and institutions, its enterprise and culture, only to have their posterity stripped of their God given rights. In generations past, the Church has always been able to count on the faithful to stand up and protect her sacred rights and duties. I hope and trust she can count on this generation of Catholics to do the same. Our children and grandchildren deserve nothing less.
And therefore, I would ask of you two things. First, as a community of faith we must commit ourselves to prayer and fasting that wisdom and justice may prevail, and religious liberty may be restored. Without God, we can do nothing; with God, nothing is impossible. Second, I would also recommend visiting www.usccb.org/conscience, to learn more about this severe assault on religious liberty, and how to contact Congress in support of legislation that would reverse the Administration’s decision.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr
Archbishop of Cincinnati
This is a situation we simply cannot stand still for. Last week, Santorum pointed out, for the second time, and again to largely deaf ears, that the legal mandate part of Obama-care is not only un-Constitutional – it strikes at the Declaration of Independence itself, which is the very foundation stone of America. The God-given rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness are the very reason for the existence of America. Defense of these rights is, precisely, what our government is Constituted to do. To protect these rights is why the Constitution was written in the first place. (See the Santorum gets it page.)
This blatant Imperial Edict from on high that lit the good Archbishop’s fire is even more egregious than the one that set Santorum off, because the Obama-care mandate, at least, was legislated, even though it violates the Constitution, the Declaration and everything America stands for. In the case that Archbishop Schnurr points out, it wasn’t even legislated, and there is nothing representative about it; it is a mere regulation, with full force of law, authored by some nameless, faceless bureaucrat under orders from the Emperor, proving once again that we are not being represented – we are not even being governed – we are merely being administered.
No level of American government can legitimately force anyone to buy anything, or force any business entity to provide anything, or force any employer to contribute to anything against their will. That, you see, would be an infringement on liberty, and on the pursuit of happiness – the ability of a citizen to work for his own self interest and thereby make profit. At the same time, it would be an infringement on the free market – that natural thing, called Capitalism, which just naturally happens when men enjoy liberty and the right to pursue happiness. Liberty and Capitalism go together; indeed, they are inseparable. Whatever injures one injures the other.
Government did not grant us these rights – God did. Government cannot legitimately take them away.
Pray about this. And then do something about it.

As an American woman I find it interesting that a woman’s health issue should stir up such vitriol. There was no intention in this action to violate anyone’s rights under the constitution. The President has since modified the rule to apply to insurance providers and not to any Catholic institutions, proving that he had no intent to infringe on the first amendment. Women have a right to access to health care, and that right extends to all women, not just Catholic women. The Catholic position seems to me to be to force their religious beliefs on non-Catholics in violation of the first amendment. This is a woman’s health issue, pure and simple.

The President’s recent change of the unrepresentative and unlegislated bureaucratic rule issued by an unaccountable bureaucracy changed nothing in regards to the original violation of the First Amendment. Instead of the Catholic employers providing the coverage, the insurance companies – all insurance companies – are required to provide the coverage. Who pays for the coverage? The Catholic employers, and all other employers, and every employee who contributes to his own health care insurance.
No one is left out. Private companies are forced by government to provide it. Private employers are forced by government to purchase it. Private citizens are forced by government to participate in it.
The flat out immorality and illegality of this entire issue is dumbfounding. Everything about it is wrong. Let me count the ways:
There is simply no part of any of this that is natural, Constitutional, legal or moral. See the Contraception page for the history of where all this evil nonsense began, and how we got to this point.
To oppose God is to oppose nature. To oppose nature is to oppose God. Comrade Obama (peace be upon him) opposes nature, God, the family, the Church, free enterprise, Life liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, the Constitution and Truth. He is a typical MEJTML14 . He is guided by the ethos of BMDFP10 and his fellow Marxists.
This ain’t no women’s health issue. It’s much bigger than you imagine.

You are making a mountain out of a molehill and you are turning the issue upside down. You don’t believe women have a right to equal health care coverage, others believe they do. Are those who oppose your ideas not to have a voice at all? You are the one who is imposing your values on us. No one is forcing you to pay for anything.

This is no molehill.
It doesn’t matter what you or I believe; what matters is the state of law in the matter. Women do not have any such right to equal health care coverage, any more than they have a right to equal food, or to equal anything else.
There is no legal right to any health care in America. Nor is there any legal right to public indoctrination. I mean education. Yet, here we are.
You are the one who has it backwards; the state is imposing its values on us, the sovereign citizens, by force of bureaucratic regulation, which is tantamount to imperial edict.
The American government is not authorized, qualified or Constituted to practice medicine without a license, nor it is authorized, qualified or Constituted to practice Insurance without a license, nor is it authorized, qualified or Constituted to direct any private business or citizen in how to provide these services. The government has stuck its long nose deep into the private sector, and it is now time for a major government nose job.
The government is indeed forcing everyone to pay for this diabolical practice under the title of health care; there is nothing in this world that is free. Providers are to cover it at no expense to beneficiaries, but it still has a cost, and the providers are going to get that money from the premiums. We all are being forced by law to participate in programs supporting acts that are intrinsically evil perversions of nature.
All providers are to include it in coverage; all employers are to purchase it; all employees are to participate in it, and most will also contribute to it. No exceptions.
Contraception is legal and available to you. Sterilization is legal and available to you. Abortion is legal and available to you. No one is preventing you from practicing and enjoying your sick and disgusting lifestyle choices.
Why must you insist that I pay for you to avail yourself of these evil, twisted and perverted lifestyle choices?

As part of the ongoing effort to upgrade this whole website, upgraded this webpage to the new BB 2.0 - SBI! 3.0 release and to make use of the new reusable code features.
An earlier phase of this major conversion corrupted or adversely affected some fonts, alignments, quotes and tables in the previously published webpages. Not to worry; this phase is converting them all, one by one. Eventually, every webpage on this site will have the same look and feel as this one.
LOVE this new release!

"We belong to the Church militant; and She is militant because on earth the powers of darkness are ever restless to encompass Her destruction. Not only in the far-off centuries of the early Church, but down through the ages and in this our day, the enemies of God and Christian civilization make bold to attack the Creator’s supreme dominion and sacrosanct human rights.”--Pope Pius XII
