Our Founding Fathers would role in their graves if they saw our convoluted, corrupted and thoroughly Marxist Re-distributional tax system as it exists today. They would have held any kind of tax on any kind of private property to have been anathema.
What they were establishing, in establishing America, was the exact opposite: the ability of the family to run itself unhindered, unrestricted, unregulated and untaxed. That means, the family and the family alone would run the family house, the family farm, the family inn, the family business of any kind, and mind their own business, without interference from government.
That's what Liberty means.
That's what Pursuit of Happiness means.
Business is private. Business has nothing to do with government, and government has nothing to do with business.
Our first taxes had nothing to do with the possession of private property, including any earned income. The only so-called property taxes or so-called income taxes ever imposed before Woodrow Wilson were actually sales taxes; they were taxes on the proceeds from the sale of land or other real property; not on the possession of the property itself. Even these sale-of-property taxes were always temporary, enacted for an emergency purpose, such as financing war. They always expired or were repealed when the need ended, and they were never intended to be permanent.
And America became the worlds greatest economic powerhouse, in the complete absence of an income tax or any other kind of property tax.
We need to repeal, invalidate and eliminate every form of American citizen taxation save one: a consumption tax, in the form of a tax on all new retail sales. A new car; a new phone; a new whatever; a pound of pork; a half gallon of milk; etc. No taxes on resale, whether citizen-to-citizen or through used-item businesses, and no taxes on non-currency bartering, as the Amish do.
The tax would be collected at the cash register, having been automatically added to the bill of the purchaser. The need for filing an annual income tax statement would be eliminated, because the income tax would be eliminated. Tax deductions would be eliminated, because the taxes themselves would be eliminated. Citizens don't have to talk to the government at all; only retailers would interact with the government, to send in the taxes collected from each retail sale.
Your income is your private property, and your private business.
Think about it. What business is it of the government what you earn, or what you possess? What business is it of the government what your Pastor earns, or what he possesses?
We have discussed the Fair Tax unto death, and the ability to put it on a fast track so that it may be put into effect immediately, without waiting for the necessary repeal of the 16th Amendment. Basically, Congress has the ability now to change the tax tables any time they want to change them. All they would have to do is add the required wording to the Fair Tax bill to eliminate all brackets except one, and make the tax percentage on that bracket set to zero percent. No tax, in other words.
Thus the income tax would still exist until Amendment 16 was repealed by a majority of states, but the tax rate would be zero, and nobody would be paying taxes, and employers would not be collecting taxes from paychecks. Wilson managed to get Amendment 16 passed in one year. We should be able to repeal it in less time than that. All that is needed is for Congress to draw up the Amendment and send it out to the states for ratification.
I predict six months or less, because the people are sick of it.
The bill to repeal the 16th Amendment should also outlaw every other form of citizen taxes in existence, leaving only the Fair Tax, as the sole tax American citizens pay. No property tax. No inheritance tax. No business tax. No capital gains tax. No tax, period, except for the Fair Tax.
No tobacco tax, and no liquor tax, and no other form of "behavior-modifying" tax. If it is legal, it may be sold, and the only tax on it should be the Fair Tax. That applies to existing gasoline taxes at the pump. They too should be replaced by the Fair Tax.
Government has no business trying to modify behavior through tax programs. If a substance is legal it may be sold; if it is deemed to be all that horrible, then it should be made illegal. We should pass an amendment to that effect, as was done once upon a time with liquor, with all the ugly history that followed, including eventual repeal.
As shown in the Fair Tax article, what we are already paying in retail sales prices now, including sales taxes, is approximately what we will be paying after enactment. Eliminating income tax, up and down the line, lowers prices of everything to more automatic market-determined prices.
People think that businesses producing products and services pay sales taxes on them, but they do not. Consumers pay them in the form of higher prices. It's the same with income taxes. Businesses don't pay any taxes; only their consumers pay taxes, in the form of higher prices of retail products. If a businesses taxes, including income taxes, go up, the price of the goods and services go up with it, and the consumer pays the price, not the Business. Once taxes are raised so high that the market won't provide any profit whatsoever, the business goes under.
So when all other taxes are eliminated, prices of goods and services will go down radically. Fair Tax will raise them up again, and there will be a period of frustrating rises and falls in retail pricing, until the market - the laws of supply and demand - level it all out again. Businesses that try to reap huge profits will soon lose business and lose market share to competitors who can radically undercut them. Competition will become fierce, and that always drives prices down.
An added bonus for the citizenry is the Pre-Bate monthly payment that comes out of the Fair Tax system. It should amount to considerably more than the government mandated monthly wage of the Cuban worker, and American citizens don't have to work for it. It just comes in the mail.
Once enacted, states and local taxing authorities would be wise to come up with state and local versions of the Fair Tax, outlawing all other forms of taxes in their states and cities. That inter-state, inter-city competition would start a mass migration of both businesses and citizens to Fair Tax localities, just as the national Fair Tax passage would initiate a mass-migration of foreign and multi-national business into the USA, to be allowed in at our discretion.
I have heard detractors argue that new car, new boat, new airplane, etc., sales will dry up. Not true, on two counts.
First, there will always be consumers who want the newest, latest and greatest of whatever it is, and they will continue to buy new big ticket items.
Second, if new car sales, for instance, slump because of the sales tax on new cars but not on used cars, dealers will do the opposite of what they currently do now whenever any of their taxes go up, which is, they raise prices to cover it.
What will they do under Fair Tax if new model sales start to dry up? If you said they would lower prices, go to the head of the class. The free market will set the most profitable and least risky price. Supply and demand always works better than any man made formula.
When prices settle around something deemed by the buying public to be reasonably more than the same model one year old, new model sales will pick up again.
A flat tax just ain't gonna get it. As long as the income tax lives, all the globalists, crony capitalists, special interest groups, academics, criminals and Marxists who have big money, big contacts and big power will work to control if not enslave politicians to keep the flow of money going, through manipulated tax law, for favored contracts, the "infrastructure" scam, and extraneous unconstitutional purposes, including grease, bribes and the overall agenda of "The Club".
As attractive as Ted Cruz's 10% flat tax looks, it's still an income tax, and we still have to file every year, and the IRS cannot be totally put out of business.
Our convoluted tax system is convoluted precisely for the purposes of not allowing you and me to fully understand it; but at the core of it is control, of you and of me. Unconstitutional control. The ability to watch what we do, and government ability to mind our business, and modify our business, but for their purposes, not ours.
The IRS is their secret power base. It all goes through the IRS.
It has to stop. Our business is none of their business.
That's my humble opinion, for what it's worth.
