The following came in via e-mail through meetup.com; I could not reply without replying to thousands of people, which I am not authorized to do anyway. Since I am in several meetup groups, including two Patriot groups and two Tea Party groups, I don’t even know which group the sender is in, since her “profile” is protected or something. So, here’s her submittal and my response to it, and a prayer that she may see it.

Dear Mr. Biorseth:
A Vietnam Veteran friend of mine emailed an article you wrote on the Catholic Thinker Website regarding the history of the Vietnam War. I also read your mission statement. Your website is so critically enlightening. I think even Catholic colleges have lost their way in what they teach in school now. I attended St. Mary's U here in San Antonio and feel like sending them a printout of your mission statement asking them how they're shaping our students. I was trying to see if you were a priest who wrote the articles on your website to see how you aligned with the church, if you were.
I remember taking a course on either ethics or morality at St Mary's and the final chapter addressed a 'new world order'.
Even though it was an ideal philosophy I thought at the time it stunk of totalitarianism that'd be impossible to maintain "democratically". I've had trouble with that idea since and couldn't believe it was being promoted/taught in a Catholic university.
There's one thing I was taught in a philosophy class at St. Mary's U, however, that contradicts what you write. I remember specifically a teacher asking what comes first, religion or culture. The answer was culture. And, Catholicism has always worked within the limited horizons of cultural beliefs. For instance, when trying to teach indigenous natives in some Central American country the rhythm method of birth control, it was found that it conflicted with their cultural belief that you do not fool with mother nature (so to speak). But what you wrote the Catholic Church aims to change any culture in which it operates in order to put religion first.
I'd like to reconcile these things with you as I really want to go to my alma mater to ask them what they are doing to shape future leaders and to preserve the United States. I'm not even sure any more if the church is interested in doing that since they've called the war in Iran an immoral war. I don't agree with the church on that position and don't even see how they can say that.
Hope to hear back from you.

The Catholic American Thinker is my free e-zine that gets sent out to subscribers every time something new is published on my website, which is this website. I couldn’t tell whether to put this as a comment on the Vietnam War page or the Mission Statement page, and decided to do this entirely new page instead. As I have said in the Contact Me page, I had to give up private e-mail dialogues long ago, when it got to the point where I was maintaining six or eight identical private e-mail dialogues on the same topic at the same time, along with several other topics. I can type pretty fast, but it just got to be too much for me. Too many confusing threads to keep track of.
First, I am a layman, with some theological studies behind me. My alignment is with Rome; on all matters pertaining to faith and morals, I obey Rome, and I put my faith in the Holy Father, the Great Councils, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the Bible. When subject matter is outside Church doctrine, i.e., not on faith and morals, I do not rely so heavily on the Church. I am an American Constitutional conservative, which puts me at odds with the political views of many if not most high ranking clerics. For instance, I am adamantly opposed to nearly everything the United Nations does or tries to do. You can read my story in the About Your Host page.
The UN is always coming up with new “human rights” that are impossible to fulfill without reverting to Marxism. The largest voting block within the UN is Islamic. The second largest voting block within the UN is Marxist. Virtually everything the UN does is anti-American. The UN has declared the unhindered, unlimited crossing of the American national borders by foreigners to be a human right. Not any other nation’s borders, but only ours. How nice of them.
May I suggest as a beginning point reading Prof. Brom’s article on Marxist Fundamentals to give you an idea of the depth, breadth, scope and vast time span involved in Marxist infiltration into Western thought. A next step might involve reading the various Cafeteria Catholic pages identified by the navigation buttons to the left of the screen.
God always has to come first, Nancy. Religion should form culture; otherwise, politics – meaning power – would form religion. We have got to maintain a corporate sense of right and wrong on which to base our civil law and our rules of governance. That means morality. That means religion.
Otherwise, what would our collective sense of right versus wrong be? The ends justify the means? No; that is amorality, and it is the path to barbarity.
Religion changes culture, gradually, by persuasion, or it fails, and it leaves that culture behind. Just as you evangelize to an individual, and try to persuade, but if you fail, you shake the dust and move on.
There is no religion like ours. There is no culture like ours. Now, we are engaged in a struggle to keep them both alive, let alone growing. Our mission is to preach the gospel to the world, but we find ourselves in a defensive posture. The poison of Marxism is doing it’s work.

Please note the language and tone of this monitored Website. This is not the place to stack up vulgar
one-liners and crude rejoinders. While you may support, oppose or
introduce any position or argument, submissions must meet our
standards of logical rigor and civil discourse. We will not
participate in merely trading insults, nor will we tolerate participants merely
trading insults. Participants should not be
thin-skinned or over sensitive to criticism, but should be prepared to
defend their arguments when challenged. If you don’t really have a
coherent argument or counter-argument of your own, sit down and don’t
embarrass yourself. Nonsensical, immoral or merely insulting submissions will
not be published here. If you have something serious to contribute to
the conversation, back it up, keep it clean and keep it civil. We humbly
apologize to all religious conservative thinkers for the need to even say
these things, but the New Liberals are what they are, and the internet is what it is.
If you fear repercussions, do not use your real name and
